‘Skin tests’ for acid reflux symptoms
(eHealthNewsDaily) — Some people swear by using turmeric to reduce acid reflux, and there are even studies in the works that show how to mix turmeric with ginger root to treat pain and even heart attacks.
But does this really work? A recent eHealth analysis suggests it might.
Called “skin tests,” these tests measure specific substances in the skin that have been linked to the symptoms of acid reflux. The formulas listed below were tested and found to be effective in treating acid reflux in just over half of those tested, the analysis found.
There are some important caveats to this approach. A person’s skin may not be a reliable guide to acid reflux problems. And some drugs can also work by increasing the body’s production of new cells, called GYRAPINS, that may interfere with the appearance of these tests.
Additionally, only a small number of women had their skin tested for acid reflux symptoms, and the drugs tested don’t always work for everyone, the analysis found.
The fact that skin tests are somewhat subjective suggests that doctors should, at the very least, approach this information with caution, the analysis concluded.
